As a doctor of chiropractics who is passionate about utilizing the most advanced methods of care, Dr. Parker Mah's expertise and years of training and experience help patients get relief of back and neck pain, headaches, and other conditions originating from the spine. Chiropractic care is a great choice for overall health and wellness, and can even be used for injury prevention!
At Klamath Spine, Rehab & Sports Centre we teach our patients how to perform exercises that can correct irregularities in the body. Imbalances in muscle and connective tissue can not only add to pain caused by skeletal misalignment, but can create limitations in daily activities and performance. Dr. Mah and our experienced rehab assistants work together to create personalized plans with exercises and stretches that will not only help you feel better, but help you to perform at your best.
K-laser helps reduce pain, reduce inflammation, and enhance tissue healing—both in hard and soft tissues, including muscles, ligaments, or even bones. The treatment stimulates the cytochrome oxidase enzyme in the cells’ mitochondria. This is really one of the key discoveries in the whole science of laser therapy. Specifically, injured cells are targeted because damaged cells are more readily accepting of photons of light, whereas healthy cells don’t need this extra energy. Spinal decompression (traction) uses a gentle pulling force to stretch the muscles, ligaments, and discs, and to separate joint surfaces. This can be used along the cervical or lumbar spine to create suction on the disc, stretch tissues, increase circulation, and straighten spinal curves. It is commonly used for disc protrusion ("slipped disc"), nerve root compression, dislocation of a vertebra, scoliosis, and muscle spasm.
Ultrasound is a modality which uses deep heat to promote healing, break up swelling and/or scar tissue, and soften hard tissue and scar tissue. Ultrasound can be used on most parts of the body, but is especially effective on conditions such as tendonitis, bursitis, carpal tunnel, strains/sprains, arthritis, and radiculitis or nerve irritation.
Electrical Stimulation Therapy uses electrical currents to decrease pain, relax muscles, decrease swelling, and help tissues heal. With e-stim, the intensity is controlled by the patient to deliver comfortable and effective treatment that helps your body to heal itself.
Kinesiology tape runs interference on pain. Ever whack your shin and rub it, and suddenly realize you feel better? RockTape (the brand of Kinesiology tape our office uses) on the skin can interfere with painful signals which are directed to the brain. When the signals arriving to the brain are altered, it does not produce the sensation of pain. The tape helps to change how your body interprets pain, turning down the pain “volume” that your body hears. When RockTape is applied to the skin, it has a microscopic lifting effect underneath the skin and between the many layers. This allows the by-products created by inflammation to be removed more quickly. RockTape helps bring dormant muscle (ie. after surgery, a break or sprain) back to life and help calm down the overactive muscles. It helps your body coordinate movement as if it weren’t hurt, hence allowing it to heal properly. Unlike conventional taping, which prevents movement – RockTape allows full movement of a taped area. Through elastic properties and quick recoil, RockTape can help distribute forces to other nearby areas through the fascia, ligaments, and even bones.
Graston Technique® is an innovative, evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to detect and effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions, as well as maintain optimal range of motion.
Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to coach our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.
What does nutrition have to do with chiropractic care? The goal of chiropractic care is to help patients achieve total health and balance with their body, and as part of that goal we provide specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices. Nutritional counseling by our experienced chiropractic health professionals can assist a patient on their return to optimal health. At our clinic, we can provide each patient with a structured nutritional program that is based on their individual needs.
